Governor Ron DeSantis criticized federal authorities and backed up statements made by the Florida Department of Health on Monday, which questioned the FDA's decision to eliminate the use of monoclonal antibodies as a treatment for COVID-19.

DeSantis said that as a consequence of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) decision, "some Americans are going to lose their lives."

DeSantis demanded that President Biden reverse the FDA's decision. Following the lines of statements from Florida health officials, the governor said there is not even the slightest evidence that monoclonal antibodies are not effective.

DeSantis said that there is no "clinical data to support this action" and added that "Biden has forced physicians to choose between treating their patients or breaking the law."

On Monday, the Florida Department of Health announced the decision of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to suspend the permit to use two monoclonal antibody treatments against COVID-19, which will force Florida to close the centers where these treatments were being carried out.

The FDA decided to reverse the emergency authorization to use monoclonal antibodies bamlanivivab/etesevimap and Regeneron in people in the early stages of infection.
