Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is ready to take a big step in his political career. The former Navy Judge Advocate is reportedly expected to formally announce his 2024 presidential bid next Wednesday via Twitter.

The announcement will take place in a conversation on Twitter's audio chat platform, known as Twitter Spaces, and will feature CEO Elon Musk.

DeSantis is emerging as the main rival of Donald Trump, the 45th president of the United States, in the race for the Republican nomination.

The connection between DeSantis and Musk appears to be a strong one, as the Twitter Spaces event will be moderated by David Sacks, a tech entrepreneur close to Musk and a supporter of DeSantis.

In addition to the Twitter announcement, the DeSantis campaign will release a video presentation that same night. DeSantis will begin a series of visits to several key states, thus establishing his presence in the early stages of the electoral contest.

This political pitch seeks to further deepen the ties between the billionaire tech mogul and one of the rising stars of the Republican Party. Musk has expressed admiration for DeSantis in the past and has stated his support for the governor should he decide to run for president.

Coinciding with the announcement, a high-level fundraiser in support of DeSantis will be held in Miami.

Organizers and donors will meet at the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel from May 24-26, where they will receive detailed briefings from campaign staff and have the opportunity to make fundraising calls for the campaign.

According to a source familiar with the conversations who spoke to NBC, DeSantis's team has been in discussions with Musk for at least the last few weeks. In those conversations, Musk has indicated that he does not believe former President Donald Trump can win back the White House.
