Superstar NFL quarterback Tom Brady shared a message about he “betrayal of false friends” just hours after comments from his former Brazilian supermodel wife, Gisele Bündchen, were released as part of an exclusive Vanity Fair cover story.

The former Patriot turned Buccaneer took what appeared to be a swipe back at Bündchen’s recent comments about their marriage by quoting poet Ralph Waldo Emerson on his Instagram Story.

“What is success? To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends,” the quote began.

The poet’s quote describes success as finding the “best in others” and “leaving the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or esteemed social condition…”

The legendary quarterback posted three red hearts with the quote.

Brady’s comments are purportedly in response to Bündchen’s recent comments about their marriage in which she insisted she never tried to force him to retire from football.

“If there’s one person I want to be the happiest in the world, it’s him, believe me,” she told Vanity Fair. “I want him to achieve and to conquer… I want all his dreams to come true,” Bündchen said, insisting she is not “somebody who is against football.”

The former Victoria’s Secret Angel also said that Brady’s past relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan “never” impacted their relationship in any significant way. Brady and Moynahan share a 15-year old son together.

“I have a great relationship with her,” Bündchen said of the Moyhahan, adding that “everything in life comes with work.”

“You have to go through the roller coaster.. you have moments where you get to the sticky points and you’ve gotta overcome it.”

Bündchen also denied rumors she was dating billionaire Jeffery Soffer, saying he was her ex-husband’s friend and she did not consider such a relationship appropriate.
