The City of Orlando declared Nov. 6 as Marc Anthony Day in honor of the tropical salsa music legend, Remezcla reported.

Yet although Anthony is a top-selling salsa artist who has won three Grammy Awards and six Latin Grammy Awards, "it is his selfless and tireless philanthropic work behind the scenes that really makes him a proud Latino,” said city of Orlando Commissioner Tony Ortiz.

City officials also presented Anthony with a “Key to the City” in recognition of his work with Latino charities and for his support of U.S. Armed Forces personnel.

Anthony’s Maestro Cares Foundation, whose mission it is to build homes and schools for underprivileged children in Latin America and the United States, was founded in 2012.

Anthony also works closely with Somos Una Voz, a coalition of celebrities who provide food, shelter and medicine to the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

“Marc’s invaluable philanthropic efforts change lives every day,” Army Retired Lt. Colonel Wilson Ariza noted during a press conference. “His commitment to the wellbeing of humanity is a clear celebration of his Latino heritage and life’s purpose. I couldn’t thank him enough for his support to so many global initiatives.”
