Three South Florida correctional officers are facing murder charges in connection with the February death of an inmate identified as Ronald Gene Ingram, according to Telemundo 51.

The three officers charged are Ronald Connor, 24, Christopher Rolon, 29, and Kirk Walton, 34.

Another prison officer is a fugitive from justice after he did not turn himself in to face the charges.

The three men are being charged with second-degree murder, conspiracy, aggravated assault on an elderly adult, and cruel treatment of a detainee, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The charges stem from the death of Ingram, a 60-year-old inmate, who died while being transferred from Dade Correctional Institution on February 14.

"Over the past two and a half months, Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) agents and analysts have worked more than 1700 hours on this investigation, conducting more than 45 interviews and writing 77 investigative reports thus far…to ensure justice on behalf of the victim and his family," said Florida Department of Corrections and Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials in a press conference.

According to the FDLE, Ingram was supposed to be transferred to Lake CI upstate, but before he was removed from his cell in the mental health unit, an incident occurred in which he threw urine at an officer.

Authorities said correctional officers handcuffed the inmate, dragged him out of his cell, and began beating him. Ingram was beaten so brutally that he had to be carried to the transport van, they added.

FDLE said the officers placed him alone inside a secure compartment in the van. On the way to their destination, they made a stop in Ocala, and that's when they found Ingram dead.
