U.S. Border Patrol agents intercepted 110 Cuban migrants that made their way to the Florida Keys, seeking to reach the mainland United States, authorities said on Tuesday.
The migrants arrived in three separate vessels, according to a tweet by Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar, who has been documenting several migrant apprehensions by Border Patrol Agents in Florida.
The Cubans were detained with assistance from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Florida Fish, and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The latest encounter with migrants in the Florida Keys comes as the number of Cuban migrant landings has increased in the region. Border Patrol agents have reported a 500% increase in encounters with Cuban migrants compared to the same time last fiscal year. In October alone, more than 800 migrants have arrived in 50 different landings.
A record number of Cuban migrants has also been seen attempting to enter the United States through the southern border with Mexico. During the last fiscal year, more than 224,000 Cubans were processed, the third most processed nationality behind Mexicans and Guatemalans, according to Local10.
