Balenciaga is a Spanish luxury brand that is often a trend for its controversial designs and promotional campaigns. This time, it made headlines for putting the world's most expensive "trash bag" on sale, valued at $1,790.

The brand's creative director and co-founder of the Vetements brand, Demna Gvasalia, took social media by storm after announcing his next fashion launch: a calfskin drawstring bag in the shape of a trash bag.

The bag will be available in four color combinations: all-black, white with red, yellow with black, and blue with black.

"I couldn't miss the opportunity to make the world's most expensive trash bag, because who doesn't love a fashion scandal?" Gvasalia told WWD.

The new piece debuted for the first time as part of the opening look of Balenciaga's Fall 22 fashion show where Gvasalia paid tribute to the victims of the Ukrainian war. Models walked down a runway with artificial snow, a reference to the refugees.

Balenciaga had already generated controversy in May with a collection of "broken and worn" sneakers, marketed under the name "Paris Sneakers." The footwear had a limited edition of 100 pairs and sold from €495 to €1,500.

Another of its controversial products is the "stiletto heel" crocs that were part of the spring-summer 2022 collection, available in green, black, white, and pink.
