Salvadoran authorities arrested a Colombian citizen who was linked to the murder of a Paraguayan prosecutor who was assassinated in Colombia last year, El Salvador’s government announced on Wednesday.

Margaret Chacon is accused of being involved in the murder of organized crime prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, who was killed during his honeymoon in Cartagena, Colombia on May 10 in front of his wife by two gunmen who arrived on a jet ski.

According to Salvadoran Minister of Justice and Security Gustavo Villatoro, Chacon arrived in El Salvador on May 26. She continuously traveled back and forth between several Latin American countries, but always returned to San Salvador, he added.

Interpol issued an arrest warrant for Chacon on Monday. She will be handed over to Colombian authorities for due processing.

The police also arrested a Salvadoran national who was hiding Chacon in the Central American country.

Two additional individuals accused of planning, paying, and hiring Pecci’s murderers were arrested in Colombia on Sunday. Four others involved in the assassination were arrested in the South American country in June.

Pecci was a prosecutor with the Specialized Unit to Fight Organized Crime. He headed several important cases, among them the "A ultranza" operation, the largest operation against cocaine trafficking in Paraguay, "which led to the seizure of dozens of money-laundered properties and the arrest of some thirty people this year," reported AFP.
