The Cuban baseball player Miguel Camacho arrived in the United States on March 24, according to baseball journalist Francys Romero.
Camacho, 22, lost his father in early February in a traffic accident while in route to Mexico from Nicaragua.
After playing in four national series in Cuba, the young player will look to sign a professional contract and fulfill his father's legacy.
"You created a warrior. Those who never give up. I love you and miss you more, but I will keep what I promised you... thanks for everything dad," he posted on his social media after arriving in the United States.
Dozens of Cuban baseball players have left the island searching for a professional contract, preferably in the Major Leagues, leaving the island's baseball teams without some of its best players.
Cuban batter and outfielder Karell Paz signed with the New York Mets in the Dominican Republic on March 22. Similarly, fielder Yaisel Ramos reached an agreement with the St. Louis Cardinals on March 15. Ramos, a 19-year-old native of Havana, is expected to sign in the next 7 to 10 days, once he passes a physical examination.
Last week, Santiago-born shortstop Yordis Perera signed with the New York Mets in the Dominican Republic, where he has been preparing since 2019 when he left the island in search of the American dream.
Just a week earlier, Perera had reached free agency, the third baseman from Santiago de Cuba joined mask Ariel Yera as the only Cubans on the New York team, according to Romero.
This week, another Cuban baseball player, pitcher Leam Méndez, signed with the New York Yankees in the Dominican Republic, where all the island's prospects are arriving.
