The Colombian Anti-Narcotics Police dismantled a gang that intended to traffic drugs from the Santa Marta seaport to Europe. Among the materials seized were more than 50 boxes of green bananas stuffed with drugs that were ready to be shipped.
In three different operations, 700 kilos of cocaine were seized, part of the drug was camouflaged in the cargo of bananas, and another part was found in the walls of a shipping container, reports Semana.
First operation
Authorities found the irregularity while inspecting a container that was overweight in the cargo yards. The fruit truck was carrying bananas with a shiny texture, also identified with a seal mark.
One of the uniformed officers proceeded to perforate the fruit, finding a white powdery substance inside, which turned out to be 109 kilos of cocaine hydrochloride.
Second operation
The second discovery was made in the cargo yards of the same port when the agents found some containers ready to load fruit. They found 461 kilos of cocaine wrapped in green elastic tape. It was determined that this merchandise was destined for the seaport of Antwerp in Belgium, according to Seguimiento.
Third operation
The third seizure occurred when authorities noticed that the doors of the container where they discovered the 461 kilos of cocaine were much heavier than usual.
The agents inspected the truck using steel drills to drill into the metal, finding a white powdery substance on the vehicle's doors, continues Seguimiento.
After separating the doors, another 110 kilos of cocaine were found.
"The drug traffickers persist in their attempt to contaminate the cargo to be exported, but here the expertise of the uniformed members of the Anti-Narcotics Police overcame the cunning of the drug traffickers, affecting the criminal finances by 31 million dollars. With this important result, we prevented more than 1,750,000 doses from reaching the streets of Europe," said Colonel Triana Vergel, according to El Heraldo.
