California Gov. Gavin Newsom has not made a public appearance in roughly 11 days.

But apparently the reason for his absence has raised doubt in the Golden State -- so much so that the governor's wife -- Jennifer Siebel Newsom went on the offensive to defend her husband in a now-deleted tweet.

“It’s funny how certain folks can’t handle truth,” Mrs. Newsom tweeted Sunday night. “When someone cancels something, maybe they’re just in the office working; maybe in their free time they’re at home with their family, at their kids’ sports matches, or dining out with their wife. Please stop hating and get a life.”

The governor's most recent appearance was on Oct. 27, when he received a coronavirus booster shot. His office said Oct. 29 in an emailed news release that the governor is tending to unspecified family obligations, according to the Associated Press.

Those family obligations were apparently the reason Newsom recently canceled plans to attend the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference in Scotland.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Newsom's now-deleted tweet was pointed out by Sacramento Bee politics reporter Sophia Bollag, who noted that the governor's office has not revealed which "obligations" forced Newsom to cancel his trip to Scotland.

California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis filled in for Gov. Newsom at the Glasgow event.
