A Piper Cherokee small plane crashed on Tuesday on the 91 Freeway in Corona, California, causing panic among drivers.

Pilot Andrew Cho lost engine power and decided to use the freeway to make an emergency landing.

The shocking incident was recorded by a camera installed in the back of a vehicle. The images went viral in the last hours on social media.

The single-engine aircraft struck the tarmac near Buena Vista Avenue at about 12:30 p.m., catching fire within seconds.

"It felt like a loud bang. Hard to describe," Cho told KTLA, "We were four to five feet in the air when the plane came to a complete stop and fell to the ground."

Cho said it was thanks to his good training he was able to carry out a successful crash landing.

"Your training kicks in and you do the right thing. As long as you don't panic, you'll get the best result," he added.

At the time of the collision, the light aircraft struck a Toyota pickup truck with force. Fortunately, its passengers were unharmed, according to the Corona Fire Department.

"The pilot claims to have experienced a possible engine failure on his final descent into Corona Municipal Airport," stated California Highway Patrol Captain Levi Miller.

"We are very fortunate today that traffic was light and the pilot appears to have made a good landing maneuver that prevented what could have been a very serious tragedy," he added.

Portions of the highway were closed for several hours while debris was being removed from the area. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating to discover the cause of the accident.
