A Delta Airlines flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles made an emergency landing on Tuesday afternoon after the cabin filled with smoke, according to authorities.

Passengers on Flight 2846 that departed Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport noticed a smoky odor and smoke spreading throughout the cabin after there was a performance issue with one of the plane’s two engines.

A video shared on Twitter shows the cabin filling up with smoke.

"Scary moment on #delta flight 2846 from ATL-LAX as an engine went out and the smoke from burnt oil came into the cabin. The crew was amazing and made everything as smooth as possible while making an emergency landing in #Albuquerque," tweeted passenger Mason Weiner.

“Someone started yelling there was a fire, but the flight attendants (in a very professional way) told everyone to chill, it wasn’t a fire, and keep seated,” Weiner told NBC News on Tuesday.

The Boeing 757 had to perform an emergency landing at Albuquerque International Sunport.

"Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and crew. That’s why our flight crew followed procedures to safely divert flight 2846 on Nov. 1 to Albuquerque," a Delta spokesperson told FOX Business in a statement. "Delta teams worked safely and quickly to get our customers on their way that evening and we apologize for the delay in their travel plans."

The flight was carrying 193 passengers and six crew members.

In subsequent tweets, Mason posted that everyone on the flight was “fine” and shared videos of the passengers applauding the pilots and flight attendants that got them through the difficult times.

The Federal Aviation Authority will be investigating the incident.
