A shark bumped into a surfboard at a California beach, knocking the surfer into the water about 100 yards from shore, officials reported on Monday.

The surfer was in the water just “off Otter Point” in Pacific Grove, Monterey county at around 5:17 p.m. when the shark encounter happened.

As it was swimming nearby, the shark grazed and bumped the surfboard, throwing the surfer off and into the water.

The surfer, who was around 100 yards from the shore, climbed back onto the board and paddled their way to shore. Fortunately, the surfer was uninjured and was not bitten by the animal.

The board was sent to Fish and Wildlife to gather any possible remaining DNA and identify the type of shark that was encountered.

As a result of the potentially dangerous encounter, signs will be posted in the area notifying beach-goers of the shark’s presence.

The shark incident is the third one of its kind to take place this year in Pacific Grove.

In August, a shark bit swam under and bit a paddle board at a nearby beach, throwing a man and his dog into the water. Fortunately, the pair was also uninjured and were able to get back onto the board and paddle to shore.

Two months earlier, 62-year-old Steve Bruemmer was swimming about 150 yards off Lovers Point when a great white shark bit into his leg. He was not as fortunate.

"I was just gliding through the water looking at the sea grasses and the sea stars," he said in a Youtube video released as he was recovering at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas in July. "I was about 150 yards from being done near the beach when — just wham! I don't even know exactly what happened, but, well it turns out I was bit ferociously by a shark right across my thighs and my abdomen."
