Stranded in Death Valley: National Parks Service says up to a thousand are trapped from flooding in the national park

The National Parks Service on Friday said that up to 1,000 staff and visitors are stranded in Death Valley National Park due to "unprecedented" levels of rainfall and flooding there.

The NPS said in a Friday press release that due to "unprecedented amounts of rainfall" causing "substantial flooding within Death Valley National Park," every road into and out of the park is "currently closed and will remain closed until park staff can assess the extensiveness of the situation."

"There are approximately 500 visitors and 500 staff currently unable to exit the park," the press release said, adding that "no injuries to staff or visitors have been reported."

Park officials warned that "more rain is expected later in the week and the ground is very saturated."
