California woman finds thousands of dollars stuffed in couch she bought on Craigslist, returns it to original owners

A woman in southern California struck gold – figuratively, at least – finding thousands of dollars hidden inside a couch she recently purchased second-hand online.  

Vicky Umodu reported finding $36,000 hidden inside a couch she acquired for free from a seller on Craigslist, ABC 7 News reported on Thursday.

According to the lucky lady, upon bringing the couch home, she began finding envelopes stuffed with cash inside the cushions.

“I was so excited, I was screaming, ‘It’s money,’” Umodu said.

Although she eventually returned the cash to the couch’s original owners, she received a $2,200 thank you from the couple who said they got rid of the couch after a recent death in the family.

The family also said they ended up finding hundreds of dollars hidden around the house where the couch was located.
