An anesthesiologist was arrested on Monday in Brazil after being accused of sexually abusing a pregnant patient while she was undergoing a cesarean section at the Heloneida Studart Women's Hospital in Rio de Janeiro.

The authorities identified the physician as Giovanni Quintella Bezerra. Members of the medical team managed to record the anesthesiologist after months of suspicious behavior.

A video shows how the defendant apparently unzips his zipper and inserts his penis into the mouth of the patient, whom he had anesthetized minutes earlier for the surgery.

According to testimony given to the authorities, the defendant also insisted that the curtain separating the upper body be raised higher and higher while the cesarean section was being performed so that the patient's face was hidden from the rest of the medical team.

The nurses handed over to the Brazilian police the gauze used by the anesthesiologist, which he used to clean the mouth of the patient he mistreated, according to the newspaper O Globo.

One of the nurses said she observed how the anesthesiologist ejaculated and then used the gauze to clean the mouth of the victim, who was unconscious and sedated because of the procedure. The drug used to sedate the patient was also seized.

The police claimed that Quintella Bezerra was charged with rape in a state of vulnerability. He faces between 8 and 15 years in prison.

Quintella Bezerra, has a specialization in anesthesiology and worked for six months in several hospitals in Rio, the Health Secretariat explained.

The entity also informed that pertinent investigations are being carried out within the hospital in order to take administrative measures.
