Republican Marchant wins Nevada secretary of state primary, vows to overhaul state election system
Marchant is a former a former state Assembly member who'll compete in November against Democrat Cisco Aguilar, a Las Vegas attorney

Nevada Republican Jim Marchant, who was critical of his state’s tallying of the 2020 presidential election results, defeating five other candidates Tuesday night to win the GOP nomination for secretary of state.
He will compete in November against Democrat Cisco Aguilar, for the seat left open by Republican Barbara Cegavske, who must retire because of term limits.
Aguilar is a Las Vegas attorney who ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
Marchant, a former state Assembly member, has said he would not have certified President Biden’s two-point victory over then-President Trump in Nevada in 2020 had he been secretary of state and has vowed, if he wins the general election, to overhaul the state’s election system.
Former President Trump did not make an endorsement in the GOP secretary of state primary, according to CNN.
