A shooting on Saturday night in the border city of Yuma, Arizona left two dead and five others wounded, according to authorities. No suspect is yet in custody.
The Yuma Police Department responded to shots fired in the 3800 block of S. J Edward Drive at around 10:54 p.m., according to Sgt. Lori Franklin.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found multiple gunshot victims, whom they proceeded to transport to nearby hospitals.
A 19-year-old male was transported to the Yuma Regional Medical Center but was pronounced deceased shortly after their arrival at the hospital. Similarly, a 20-year-old victim was transported by the Yuma Fire Department to the same hospital but was pronounced dead after his arrival. A 16-year–old male was transported to the same hospital and then flown to Phoenix with life-threatening injuries.
The other gunshot victims, aged 15, 16, 18, and 19, had non-life-threatening injuries, police said. A total of seven victims were treated at the Yuma Regional Medical Center.
Several off-duty officers who were in the area assisted with the incident, the statement from the police department added.
The incident, as well as the cause for it, remain under investigation, the police department said in the statement.
"It is still an ongoing investigation, so there were a lot of witnesses there. Everybody's being interviewed, everything's being double-checked, everything's being gone over. At this time, this is all I have. They are actively working on this, and if we have an update, we will let everybody know,” Franklin said.
The suspect in the shooting still remains at large. The Yuma Police Department is urging anyone with any information about the case to step forward.
"Remember, if your information leads to an arrest, you may receive up to a $1,000 cash reward," Franklin wrote.
