The Republican National Committee launched an initiative to register voters at Arizona gas stations on Saturday amid unprecedent pain at the pump for American drivers, according to reports.

"Don't like the #BidenGasHike? Vote!” RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel tweeted Saturday. “Republicans are coming to gas stations nationwide to register voters! #LeadRight."

The RNC told Fox News that staff and volunteers were at gas stations in the Phoenix and Scottsdale areas of Arizona where gas prices have soared past $4.50 per gallon.

"Arizonans are frustrated with paying the record-high gas prices we’ve seen recently, this is an issue that affects almost every single Arizonan," RNC’s Arizona Communications Director Ben Petersen told Fox News in a statement. "There’s no doubt that everyone is feeling the pain at the pump, so a gas station right now may be the very best possible place for one of our volunteers to have a conversation with someone and get someone signed up to vote."

Gas prices have surged worldwide due to sanctions against Russia, a key energy exporter, over Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.

The RNC intends to focus on the consequences of President Joe Biden’s “green energy” policies, such as rising gas prices even before the Ukraine war, slowed domestic production of oil and gas, and increased dependence on foreign exports from countries like Venezuela and Saudi Arabia.

"Under Joe Biden, families are paying more for gas than ever before," McDaniel told Fox News in a statement. "After killing American energy independence, Biden is turning to our adversaries abroad for America’s energy needs. American families are feeling the pain at the pump, and Biden and the Democrats do not care and are making it worse."

The national gas price was $4.262 per gallon on Saturday, according to AAA. Los Angeles, CA, was the first U.S. city to hit an average price of $6 per gallon on Tuesday.

Some state governors are considering gas-tax suspensions to help beleaguered drivers like the ones Maryland and Georgia implemented over the weekend.

The GOP also rolled out the initiative in North Carolina on Saturday, reports The Hill. The RNC is planning to expand the campaign to other states such as California, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Maine, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin.
