Ceviche is a culinary adventure that offers a unique and exotic dining experience. With its origins in Central and South America, ceviche showcases the diversity of flavors, ingredients, and culinary techniques from these regions. Trying different types of ceviche, such as Peruvian ceviche with rocoto peppers or Mexican ceviche with jalapenos, can be a thrilling culinary exploration for foodies and those with adventurous palates. It's a chance to expand your culinary horizons and discover new flavors and textures

While most people know “ceviche” as the popular Peruvian dish, many other Latin American countries also have their own version of this delicious meal. Peru’s version of the dish usually consists of fish, purple onion, lime, and leche de tigre.

However, Central America’s countries also have their own version of the dish, usually made with tomatoes and onion, and served with saltine crackers. The Central American dish can be prepared with seafood of any kind, from shrimp to fish, to octopus—or all mixed together.

Ceviche is a delightful dish that offers numerous benefits, including its nutritional value, refreshing taste, culinary adventure, and social versatility. Incorporating ceviche into your diet can be a healthy and enjoyable way to savor the flavors of the sea and explore the diverse world of culinary delights.

So why not give ceviche a try and experience its unique and delicious appeal?

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of shrimp or fish (or any other seafood)
  • 5 limes
  • 5 tomatoes, cubed
  • 2 onions, diced
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Cilantro, diced finely
  • Salt and pepper
  • Avocado (optional)
  • Hot sauce (optional)

Directions:

Clean the shrimp, take off the head, and peel it. If using fish, cut it into bite size pieces.

Place shrimp or fish in a bowl and add lime juice. Mix constantly until the shrimp or fish changes color and looks cooked. There is no need to pre-cook the shrimp or fish because the lime juice cooks them.

Add tomatoes, onions, and cilantro to the bowl and mix well. Add a few drops of Worcestershire sauce, depending on preference. Add salt and pepper. Mix all of the ingredients well.

Additionally, you can add a few drops of hot sauce of your choice or add cubed avocados at the end.

Serve with saltine crackers.
