Six people were murdered at a vigil in Juarez, Mexico, according to an online news publication monitoring drug cartel violence south of the border.

The tragic incident unfolded in the early hours last Saturday when the perpetrators attacked a residence where a funeral was taking place, according to Border and Beat.

The massacre took place in the Héroes de la Revolución neighborhood, just a few miles south of the border from the states, in the crime-ridden city of Ciudad Juárez, widely known for drug cartel activities.

Information gathered at the scene of the massacre indicates that the funeral of an individual, who had been killed days earlier in the same neighborhood, was underway inside the house.

According to the official report, five individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene, and another person succumbed while being transported to the hospital.

Witnesses reported that the assailants arrived in three vehicles—a compact gray car, a blue Ford Focus, and a ‘lifted truck.’ They disembarked and opened fire on those attending the funeral on the private property.

Residents in the area reported a significant police mobilization, although there is no announcement of the apprehension of the attackers at this time.

It was also reported that another individual sustained injuries during the same events and was taken for medical attention at IMSSclinic 66. There is no information available yet regarding their current condition or whether they survived.

This massacre brings the total number of homicides in this border area to 102 people, exceeding the officially reported 100 murders in January 2023.
