Real Madrid started the season as it ended the previous one, winning a European title. Coach Carlo Ancelotti opted for the same team as in the Champions League final in Paris and the strategy worked to perfection against Oliver Glasner's always demanding German team, Eintracht Frankfurt. Germany ended up being defeated 2-0 in the European Super Cup. This was the ideal final for Karim Benzema, who surpassed Raúl in goals scored with the white team.

The first half was slow, something strange between two clubs accustomed to fast transitions. Frankfurt could have taken the lead but goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois appeared, Madrid's life insurance in a Daichi Kamada chance. It was the whites who took the lead on the scoreboard when David Alaba stepped up to beat the German backline in the 37th minute after receiving a pass from Casemiro inside the box. Earlier, the electric Vinícius had two good finishes, while Uruguayan midfielder Fede Valverde gave Madrid wings with his physical display.

Although the German team moved the bench in search of more intensity in attack, it was Real Madrid who put the game to bed on the hour mark. First Casemiro threw a shot that hit the crossbar in the 61st minute and then, in the 65th minute, Benzema made the second goal for Ancelotti's team after receiving a pass from Vinícius from the left. The French striker reached 324 goals for Madrid. That second goal gave peace of mind to the team who, under the control of Toni Kroos, finally took the first title of the season.

"It was not an easy match. In the beginning, they were very tight. It was difficult for us to get up the pace of the match, but we scored and then we controlled the game well. We managed the match well and I'm happy to win and start the season well", said the Madridista coach.

Carlo Ancelotti won his fourth Super Cup title, two with A.C. Milan and two with Real Madrid. The white team won its fifth UEFA Super Cup title. The white team has won 14 of the last 15 finals it has played in, confirming that it is the king of world soccer.
